- From The Federation Capitol:
- Political News: UTF President Monocabeza is scheduled to give his State of the Federation Address this week. Popular drinking game moments: applause breaks, flubbed words, outright lies, and words the president makes up on the spot.
- Financial News: Stock prices for Spaceweiser Beer and Admiral Morgan up twenty points last week in anticipation of the SOTF speech. Sales of antacids and Uncle Kevorkian’s Cyanide Pills expected to rise afterwards.
- Current Events: Kevin Reeves, Geoff Smith, and I are playing the first ever Podsafe Showcase in Nashville, TN this Tuesday. The show starts at 9pm at the French Quarter Caf, is open to all ages, and is totally free. Plus, the FQC has a full dinner menu and a full bar. That always helps.
- A Note To Hollywood: I recently read some previews for 24 movies that will hit the theaters sometime this year. A full 20 of them were either a remake or a sequel including The Santa Clause 3 and a remake of The Poseidon Adventure. Note to Hollywood producers: Stop regurgitating the same crap over and over again. GO FIND ORIGINAL MATERIAL. This is the reason that indie music is killing the RIAA- your audience wants something good.
- Promo: Houston, We have A problem | Chris over at The Financial Aid Podcast snagged a clip from NASA during a little publicity stunt of mine. I don’t care what they think, though, the folks on the International Space Station got a rockin’ show that night.
- There’s now Theremin music on the PMN. The Theremin holds a special place in my heart not only because it’s possibly THE first electronic instrument but it’s also what got Robert Moog (rhymes with “vogue”) interested in making musical instruments. You can find out plenty of information about this revolutionary instrument at www.thereminworld.com
- Listener Comment: Last week my passengers and I took a pretty no-holds-barred look at some music from the PMN. One of the songs we picked was a piece of Christian Glam Rock by the band Sweet Crystal. Fortunately, I was very wrong about one thing: The album that Power And The Glory came from wasn’t released in 2001, that was a re-release. As Marq Speck, lead vocalist for the band, told me in an email, the song originally debuted in 1985. You can find some of their new material at www.sweetcrystal.com.

Hi!
I’m Beat Frequency. I’ve just listened to this episode and I’m going to be subscribing from now on. Cool show!
To explain, the website link is to a diary I have been keeping on Theremin World since I got a theremin, and the forum thread pretty much explains what I am about, what Beat Frequency is about and what Beneath The Cavern Of The Soup Dragon is about.
I thought your intro to the theremin was terrific - accurate and informative.
I appreciate that what I am doing is not really the sort of music that High Orbit is about - if you want some theremin music that really grooves, I suggest Saturday Matinee by ZenTherStick http://zentherstick.com/ - you can download Sat-Mat from the Audio page of the website. It rocks! (First heard them on another podcast - Spellbound - so they are cool with being on podcasts.)

Hey Birdman! I can’t seem to find the Theremin music on the PMN. Do you have a direct link?

Yeah, Beat Frequency’s PMN link is right here. The track “In The Cavern Of The Soup Dragon” is the only one I’ve found so far, but it’s all Theremin, baby!
Also check out Gordon (aka Beat Frequency)’s comment here for more resources.
