- We Have A Problem: The UTF Revolution has suffered from some electronic gremlins lately. This episode I’m actually outside the ship doing a little maintenance and diagnostics.
- Brief Observation: I know why independent music is not something everyone can get into- you have to decide for yourself whether or not it’s good. The labels or artificial sources of popularity tell most people what to listen to and they don’t bother to argue. Overexposure makes a song “comfortable” which most people confuse with “good”. Independent music forces you to listen to material that’s not been subjected to any corporate filters, and some people don’t want to spend the energy analyzing some music for themselves.
- Pick A Genre, Any Genre: Note to independent artists: Pick a genre that actually reflects what you do. I find so many songs listed under “rock” when what they mean is “whiny down-tempo acoustic emo”. If someone comes to your site looking for rock and you give them singer-songwriter folk, all you’re doing is pissing the listener off. In the retail world it’s called bait-and-switch. Do yourself a favor and use accurate genre listings, not just what you wish you sounded like.
- PROMO: It’s time for another Podsafe Music Showcase in Nashville, TN. Friday, April 14, 8pm, Kevin Reeves, Geoff Smith and I are playing a show at the French Quarter Cafe. It’s an all-ages FREE show, so come check us out!
- One Small Star: Looks like the technical difficulties aren’t limited to the UTF Revolution. Prodo-1 just went haywire and took off with the ship, leaving me floating out here in space. Don’t ask me how I’m typing these shownotes, just roll with it.
Update: In retrospect, I suppose it’s never a good thing when your first officer randomly starts quoting the book of Revelation.

Matthew;
Super-Excellent. Enjoyed your rant about Joe-public needing to be told what he wants! Gonna clip that segment for my podcast. The droid routine at the end was very well done! Keep little sketches like that happening! Excellent Show all-around!
