Based on a recent announcement, it looks like they’re remastering the original series too, getting rid of some production flaws, etc. I suspect it’ll be out on DVD once they complete the work. Your observations on the cultural statements the show made are right on–funny though, how all people seem to remember any more is that Kirk was the guy who always played the ladies. Maybe since the diverse crew goes without thought any longer suggests we’ve come a long way since the original aired…! Anyway, looks like a great opportunity coming soon for those who loved the original and want to collect a pristine version!
