Got a new promo!

Sunday, November 12th, 2006

I’m so happy, I just got done cooking up a new promo for the show. The guys over at the Project Studio Network helped me find a fabulous voice actor, Bob Brooks, to do the narration.

Check out The Tentacle Promo here.

Over 300 and counting!

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

Hey, I just took a look the other day and noticed that over 300 biological entities are rocking to High Orbit every week. Sweet! That’s still nearly ten new subscribers per episode, and about twice as many downloads from non-subscribers.

The Good, The Bad, And The Quickly And Permanently Ignored

Tuesday, October 31st, 2006

Just FYI, if you want to get your music played on this or any other podcast, remember to be polite. I’ve noticed that some people think it’s okay to toss etiquette out the airlock when one is promoting their stuff. Here’s a handy tip-

DO listen to a show before you send your stuff in. Just because a podcast plays “Rock” doesn’t mean it’s your kind of Rock. Stroll through a CD store and see how many different bands end up in the Rock bin- Nickelback next to Jefferson Airplane next to Marilyn Manson.

DON’T assume that “accepting submissions” equates to “add me to your fan mailing list”.

DO post your MP3 to a website somewhere (The PMN is a prime place).

DON’T, DON’T, DONT!!!!! simply CC a long list of people with a couple of attached MP3’s. Nothing pisses off someone stuck on a dialup connection, a mobile device, or a small webmail server more than 10MB of crap they didn’t ask for.

Just a few simple points of courtesy for the digital age, folks. Believe me, nothing gets your music deleted faster than angering the producer. And nothing gets you noticed like a little uncommon politeness.

Emerging From The Dark Side

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Sorry about the delay in shows, folks. I’ve been somewhat out of range for the past week or so and I should be able to transmit an episode by Halloween. And believe me, after what I’ve been through, this episode ought to be worth listening to.

Thanks for the patience!

Operation Roll Call

Friday, October 6th, 2006

A few months back I asked you to help get the attention of a sponsor for this podcast. Now I’ve got a few companies interested, but they’re all asking me the same question… How many listeners do you have? You know I want to bring you live music every week, but I can’t do that unless one of these companies helps me out. All I need from you is a little help drawing a crowd!

I need your help to make this happen!

The Mission:

Safe Travels!

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

To all of you podcasters and listeners heading out to the PME this weekend, I hope your ships travel swiftly and your alien encounters be only minor. I wish I could join you out in Ontario, California, but I’m on my way to a droid repair facility to fix up Prodo-1 and hopefully build him a little help.

More Core Dumpage

I did a bit of remedial editing to the posts around here- took a captain about three hours, too. Added Technorati tags to everything and updated the links so I could move the site to its own server without having to change everything again, no matter what server it’s on.

Apparently, though, if you sneeze hard enough around this thing, the entire RSS feed re-syncs itself. So if your podcatcher downloaded every single track once again, my apologies.

Notice something different?

In case you hadn’t caught the subtle change, there’s a whole new look to the High Orbit website. Drop me a line and let me know what you think! And please, please, please, let me know if there’s anything wrong.

Have I Mentioned

I freeking hate Internet Explorer? I mean the kind of hate that clots into little black lumps of goo in your heart until an unholy infarction causes you to spew fire and goo upon that object of your hate.

I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate Internet Explorer.

As you were.

Beam Me Up, Gene

Happy birthday to… Star Trek? Yup. Star Trek turns 40 today. And yes, Gates McFadden is the hottest sci-fi babe in history. Sorry, Sulu, this captain’s got a thing for the redhead with the meds.

To quote startrek.com:

…it had a crew that said discrimination was a thing of past; it had a future that said we were not all annihilated by nuclear holocaust; it had an economy that was driven by progress and achievement, not simple wealth accumulation; it had science as a guiding force, not mysticism or superstition; it had technology as a means to explore, not just make life easier; and, perhaps most importantly, it had a peaceful mission at its core, not one of conquest. The show screamed peace in a time of war.

Amen to that. Rodenberry put a Russian and a black woman on the bridge at a time when both could be considered ratings poison. What if the show came out today? Would they put an arab on the bridge? He’s Sudanese, really, but I think they came close enough with Siddig El Fadil. Maybe not close enough, though, and definitely before the current social climate took hold.

Ah well, here’s to four decades of taking us where no show has gone before. Pay your respects… ah why not, here.
