A Matthew Ebel First

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

So I was sitting there at a bar on planet earth, watching some freeking amazing keyboard player do his thing, and this woman approaches me. And she’s wasted. She didn’t smell like booze, but it was immediately obvious what bronco she’d been riding.

“Hey,” she says, “do you guys know where I can get any blow?”

Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Yes, on this the 5th of May we celebrate the liberation of the small, fuzzy Wilsonites from their large, scaly, carnivorous oppressors the Racketoids. A daring prison break was staged over a hundred years ago whereby a group of armed escapees returned to the Racket homeworld and proceeded to rescue their enslaved brethren. The Racketoids had relied on such slave labor for millenia to keep the planet’s central power system operational.

As a result of the revolt, the Racketoids’ planet lost its reactor containment and promptly exploded into tiny, bite-sized pieces. The explosion could be seen from three neighboring planets, leading most to believe that someone had started a fireworks party. Indeed, there was much celebrating among the Wilsonites who were literally bouncing off the walls of their transport ships.

In unrelated news, somewhere on a planet far, far away a bunch of Mexicans beat the crap out of a bunch of French.

Celebrate accordingly.

April 13, When Real Astronauts Had Real Problems

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

Chances are good you know of Apollo 13, either from history, experience, or that movie with Tom Hanks. It was today in 1970 AD that the phrase “Houston, we’ve got a problem” assumed some real meaning. I mention this for a few reasons.

Where Did Everyone Go?

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

According to Feedburner, I no longer have any listeners. Or do I? Here’s the bulletin:

Believe it or not, we had a run-in with Daylight Savings Time here in Chicago. The stats rollup process stopped, and we have since restarted it. No data has been lost, and you should expect to see your stats return by 10:30am CDT at the latest. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So pay no attention to any low stat numbers you see on the main page, the folks at Feedburner got hit with the Y2K Bug’s little cousin.

UPDATE: Wow, I went from the big zero to triple digits in one day! Should I send out a press release?

UPDATE: You know, nobody else posts their Feedburner stats on their blog page. You folks don’t care how many listeners I’ve got, do you? I’m just going to axe the little counter and clean up some of the sidebar clutter.

Do Not Be Alarmed

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Update- all should be well at this point. Please let me know if anything’s still broken.

Yes, I know the comments and the permalinks are all messed up. Working on it.

We just got moved up to a new version of WordPress in a big, big hurry. Apparently there was some major security hole that they fixed, so we updated High Orbit as soon as we could. The droids and I will have this thing looking like its old self again very soon, don’t worry!
